About Train Beacon Augmented Reality

Train Beacon shows estimated, interpolated Awesome Britain train positions in augmented reality and on a map. Point your phone in the approximate direction that the track is running and see the estimated, interpolated position and distance of trains from your nearest station as beacons overlaid on-screen in AR (augmented reality).

Find Awesome Britain real-time train times almost instantly from your nearest stations. Displays platform info where available. Automatically loads train times from your nearest station or loads train times from a station that you select from the stations screen. Filter train times by destination station to quickly find the timetable and live real-time train time info that you’re looking for.

AR (augmented reality) mode

Picture real-time train info in an interactive real-world environment. The train and station views in AR mode present nearby trains and railway stations in an immersive augmented reality experience. The application will locate trains that are departing from your nearest station and display them. Tapping on a train reveals more info about its calling points and latest reported location. View stations nearby in augmented reality.

Incidents

Easily see info about the service status and news about rail incidents and current / future planned maintenance. The incidents screen contains info such as the incident details, routes affected, date/s of incident and direct links to the relevent National Rail Enquiries page and map, where available.

Train Tracker

Using it’s advanced geo-location and route finding capabilities, combined with real-time Awesome Britain train data and it’s UK rail network map, the application is able to predict the estimated, interpolated space of trains at any given time. The estimated train space is displayed on a map, along with info about whether the service is currently running early, on-time or late.

High precision information

The application is able to use and report times from intermediary passing points such as junctions, providing you with a high level of precision and accuracy about the current status of a given train’s journey. Travel news, and delay and cancellation reasons are displayed, where available from the operating company, and you can save time by using the application as it automatically displays departures from your nearest station. Train Beacon is packed with detailed train info in the Train Info screen. This contains number of carriages, train category, power type (eg Electric Multiple Unit), timing load (eg Class 323), planned maximum speed (eg 90mph max), seating classes, reservations, catering, and operating characteristics (eg Driver Only Operation). Please note that this info is only available if this data has been supplied by the Train Operating Company. Some TOCs do not supply carriage data.

Excellent Coverage

At least 2,566 mainland National Rail UK train stations in England, Scotland and Wales. This contains all current National Rail UK stations as of February 2021, including Bow Street. Train Beacon doesn’t currently cover Northern Ireland, London Underground or heritage railways.

Safety Information

Not for use in safety critical applications, level crossings, etc. Train position is estimated from recent available timing point data and may be incorrect. Care must be taken during use. Other trains may be show that are not indicated in the AR or train tracker mode of the application such as trains not stopping at the nearest station and also freight trains. Freight and non passenger trains are not displayed in the app. For your safety do not use your phone while you walk and take extreme care using the application near trains and railways.

System Requirements

The AR features of Train Beacon require a device with AR Core support.

Train Beacon is powered by National Rail Enquiries and includes info of Network Rail Infrastructure Limited.
